Surfing in French Polynesia
Tahiti surfing is highly acclaimed among international surfers with the largest and most dangerous breaks at Teahupoo on the south coast of Tahiti Iti. However, there are no resorts along this coastline but guests can stay at a couple of budget surf camps. There are several other excellent breaks off the north coast of Tahiti at Matavai Point and Point Venus and the south coast at Papara and Fisherman's Point, but without accommodation nearby access is by rental car.
Surfing is also good on the north coast of Moorea and off Haapiti on the west coast of Moorea. Huahine is the new up-and-coming surf spot with several consistent breaks off Fare Town on the west coast. All breaks are accessible from the coast but are reef or passage breaks which require experience and nerve.
