Fiji romantic holidays are the most varied in the South Pacific giving you an excellent choice in both atmosphere and budget. Whilst some regions are quite commercialised with large beach resorts and lots of water activities going on, others are completely undeveloped with just a handful of beach bures and beaches with no footprints other than your own.

For those looking to enjoy their honeymoon in Fiji, the country has a great selection of high-end luxury resorts, many of which don't permit children ensuring an intimate couples ambience. The outer islands in Fiji offer the most intimate setting, particularly the upmarket resorts around Taveuni and Savusavu, on Beqa Island or even in the remoter parts of the Yasawa Islands. There are a handful of resorts in the Mamanuca Islands that don't permit children and although these are much easier to get to being accessible from Nadi Airport by boat (or helicopter within 10-minutes), they don't quite have that same off the beaten track intimacy that the outer islands have.

Romance in the Outer Islands

Fiji has over 300 islands in all so its not hard to find secluded Outer Islands where you can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing romantic holiday. Luxury boutique resorts can be found scattered around the outer islands alongside secluded beaches but the beach alone is not usually the only selling point. Taveuni, for example, has some of the best scuba diving in the South Pacific as well as being an adventurers paradise with lush tropical forests and an abundance of waterfalls. Similarly, Kadavu or Beqa in the Southern islands has great diving, surfing and hiking trails. At these resorts, the beach is generally secondary to the surrounding environments.

Exploring the Yasawa Islands

Extending north from the Mamanuca Islands are the exquisite Yasawa Islands, a group of 16 volcanic islands in a long thin chain with sublime beaches, delightful snorkelling lagoons and traditional fishing villages. These are some of the beautiful islands in Fiji and there are several outstanding romantic resorts from very exclusive to very affordable.

These islands are more off the beaten track than the Mamanuca Islands or the Coral Coast but thanks to the fast catamaran that shuttles tourists back and forth each day even the furthest island is very accessible. There are a couple of high end luxury resorts in very secluded locations and these offer some of the best beach locations in Fiji.

The Yasawas is also a good place to visit if you're after a romantic beach holiday but on a budget. The majority of the budget beach resorts though are quite basic with set meals served at set times and poor standards of hygiene and service. However, a few of these resorts are a step above the rest with good facilities including en-suite hot water bathrooms and a la carte dining making these a good choice for romantic couples on a tight budget.

Weddings & Honeymoons in the Mamanuca Islands

Just an hour travel time by boat from Nadi Airport across a calm lagoon, or a 10-minute hop by helicopter or sea-plane, The Mamanuca Islands is a very convenient spot for a romantic holiday in Fiji. Although it's just as easy to get to for everyone else making it Fiji's number one holiday spot, people come here for a reason .... it has beautiful beaches, great snorkelling lagoons, plenty of watersports and beautiful outlooks from your beachfront bure. And not all of the resorts are large and aimed at families. There are a half a dozen resorts that don't permit children and a few that cater to just a handful of guests ensuring absolute intimacy.

Romantic Holidays on the Main Island of Viti Levu

The best beaches on Viti Levu (the main island) start about 30-minutes drive to the south of Nadi and continue along the south coast. This region is known as the Coral Coast and here you'll find about a dozen large resorts, each one in a secluded beach location. The beaches along the Coral Coast vary considerable although none have good snorkelling off the beaches - most resorts here organise short boat trips to the outer reefs where snorkelling is much better. Some beaches, like Natadola, have great swimming and good waves for body surfing. Others, like Korotogo, have a lagoon so shallow that you can walk ankle deep to the outer reef at low tide viewing the coral rock pools along the way.

The resorts along the Coral Coast are mostly aimed at families and those who like sightseeing and shopping, although there are a couple of small boutique resorts for couples and some of the larger resorts here have segregated areas for adults. The further east you travel (away from Nadi Airport), the more dense and tropical the countryside becomes and the more intimate the setting. By the time you reach Korolevu, 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Nadi Airport, the scenery is distinctly tropical with rain forest clad mountains and secluded bays with smaller resorts aimed more at couples than families.
