Independent review for Sunset Resort in Rarotonga Cook Islands

The Sunset Resort Rarotonga Cook Islands has 35 spacious self-catering apartments situated either on the Beachfront overlooking the lagoon and sunsets or beside the swimming pools amid lush tropical gardens. The apartments are all within walking distance of seven restaurants offering a wide variety of local and international cuisine.

Room Information

Garden and Pool Side Studios are identical in interior set-up being modern open plan units- Garden Studio are set amid lush tropical gardens with private decks and offer more seclusion.

All of the studio's are air-conditioned and feature colour television DVD/CD player, in-room safe and IDD phones.  All units have full kitchen facilities with a microwave oven, fridge and freezer and tropical breakfast services are provided on site overlooking the pool. The European styled bathrooms are fully tiled and louvre shutters are set throughout the suites with insect screens.

Hotel Amenities

The beach stretches for several miles in the south and about a ten minute walk to famous Black Rock in the north where there's great all tide swimming. The beach sits directly infront of the bungalows is screened by low vegetation and is a mix of fine white sand and larger coral particles, fringing a crystal-clear lagoon with excellent snorkelling. The water level though is quite shallow with only reasonable swimming and reef shoes are recommended to avoid getting cuts from the coral patches.

Sunset Resort provides two inviting swimming pools (one freshwater, one salted) for its guests. One has the poolside “Mix & Mingle” Happy Hour Cocktail Bar with shaded seating. The other has a large decorative waterfall and a sun deck with loungers and umbrellas.

Daily tropical breakfast is served in the covered poolside dining area, which also features a ‘comfy corner’ with sofas and books.  There is no restaurant on-site as all the units are self-catering, but there is a weekly BBQ, and several good restaurants within walking distance.  Sunset Resort can also cater for weddings. Airport transfers with personal meet and greet service can be arranged for guests and the friendly and knowledgeable staff can arrange tours and excursions.  Sunset is located very close to Avarua Town and the airport, and minutes from a golf course.  The local bus stops right outside the resort.
