Independent review for Aquarius Hotel on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands
Aquarius Hotel on Rarotonga is a purpose built hotel across the road from the international airport and makes an affordable stopover or base to explore the island. Sandwiched between two oil terminals and set against a rocky coastline with a non-swimming lagoon, it is not the most picturesque location, but there are fabulous views of the reefs edge (just 20 metres from shore) where humpback whales can often be spotted between July and October. A large flat screen TV and lively bar make this a good spot to spend the evenings and rooms are spacious, clean and air-conditioned.

The Beach & Lagoon
Aquarius is an oceanfront resort, without beach or swimming lagoon, but there is a man-made beachfront with sun-loungers for lazing. The reef's edge is very close to the shore making it a great spot for watching whales in season and for watching the powerful force of the sea crashing over the reef.
A swimming pool is the central point of the resort with views overlooking the sea.
