Location
Moorea is a high volcanic island, 132 sq-km in size and lying just off the coast from Papeete making it easily accessible from the international airport. With a population of over 12,000 people, Moorea is more populated and larger in size than Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.

Highlights
Moorea is a little too busy for a truly romantic escape and the island it is best suited for those looking to enjoy its beautiful coastal scenery or to get involved in some adventure tours in the mountainous interior. The twin bays of Cook and Opunohu are equally stunning from land or by sea and are often visited by large overseas cruise ships.
Travel Info
There is little in the way of public transport except for exuberantly priced taxis, with car hire or organized coach tours the most popular way of getting around. Most hotels are along Cooks Bay (10-minutes from airport) or Hauru Beach (30-minutes from airport) on the west coast.
Accommodation
As a prime holiday destination, Moorea has plenty of accommodation although this can often be full on weekends and during local school holidays when city dwellers from Papeete arrive by the boat-load. The majority of resorts and pensions are located along the north coast and at Hauru Beach both of which are ideally placed for sightseeing.
