Location
Vanua Levu (the second largest island) and Taveuni are between an hour and two-hours flight north of Nadi. Kadavu is a 40-minute flight to the south whilst Beqa and the Lomaiviti Group are mostly reached by boat.

Highlights
The outer islands receive far fewer tourists than the main tourist destinations and here you'll get a sense of being far off the beaten track. Life on these islands is also more traditional with subsistent farming the main. Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu and Beqa all have world class scuba diving with pelagics, drift dives and especially soft corals being the highlights. Rainforest is also easily accessible with waterfalls and endemic birdlife. This more subtle aspect of tourism attracts eco travellers and a higher percentage of North Americans who come primarily to dive the reefs or elope to get married.
Travel Info
Daily flights from Nadi to Kadavu and Ovalau (in Lomaiviti Group), twice daily to Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Resorts are generally located in secluded locations with the resorts arranging for airport transfers. Some public transport and sightseeing tours on Vanua Levu and Taveuni abut limited elsewhere. Travel around Kadavu is mostly by small boat.
Accommodation
The outer islands of Fiji offer beautiful and secluded boutique resorts, usually fronting a sandy beach lined with towering coconut trees and backed by dense virgin rainforest. Most offer the complete holiday experience with scuba diving operators, spa and health centres and organized sightseeing tours and village visits for its guests.
