Introduction
The Cook Islands is small nation with just 15 islands, most of them low lying atolls and only two of these are developed for tourism. Popular amongst New Zealanders with lots of small intimate locally operated self catering bungalows and several larger beach resorts for families. The Cook Islands offers a truly relaxing holiday atmosphere and on compact Rarotonga it's easy to do your own thing.

Highlights
The majority of holidaymakers spend their time on the main island of Rarotonga, a high island with picturesque tropical mountains surrounded by white sandy beaches and lots of locally owned beach bungalows and independent restaurants. Aitutaki, a 40-minute flight to the north, is a stunning lagoon island lined with dazzling uninhabited islets accessible on day cruises and just a handful of accommodations around the coast.
Travel Info
The Cook Islands is served mostly by Air New Zealand with direct daily flights from Auckland and Los Angeles but newcomers Pacific Blue also offer regular direct flights to Auckland and have made flight prices more competitive. Prices in the Cook Islands are a little on the high side, being slightly more expensive than New Zealand and using the New Zealand currency. There are several daily flights between the international airport on Rarotonga and Aitutaki, but no passenger ferry.
